StreamVault

A video streaming platform built to hold 500,000 concurrent viewers, proven before launch rather than during it.

aws eks load-testing streaming cloud

A video streaming platform, built from nothing, covering everything from upload through to playback on a phone, a browser, or a television.

Bitmovin for encoding and adaptive bitrate. Chromecast for TV. A secure multi-region EKS cluster with autoscaling, WAF, and encrypted pipelines. Distributed load testing with Java, JMeter, and k6 across a fleet of EC2 machines.

The number that mattered

The load tests were designed to prove the system would hold 500,000 concurrent viewers before launch, not during it. That number came from the business case for what the platform needed to survive. The question was not whether we could hit it eventually. The question was whether we could prove it in advance.

We could. And we did.

What the tests found

Load testing at that scale finds things. Some of them are architectural, some of them are configuration, and some of them are surprises. The point of running the tests before launch is that all of those findings are fixable problems rather than incidents.

Every streaming platform that has failed publicly in a launch moment either did not test at scale or tested too late to act on what they found. We tested early enough to act.
